We are the Dragon-Hearted.

Rachel L. Schade
About This Quote

In the novel, “The Hobbit” by J. R. R. Tolkien, there is a concept that connects the dwarves to the dragons.

In the book, dragons are described as living in holes in mountains and caves, and they have a weakness for treasure, which they cannot bear to leave in their mountain hoards. The dragon’s treasure is especially addictive to dwarves who live underground in secret in dark places. The dwarves also seem to have a natural affinity for dragons, often being drawn to them when they are injured or dying.

This concept continues into the movie version of “The Hobbit” where Smaug, a dragon who lives in a cave near the Lonely Mountain, is drawn into Bilbo Baggins’s home when he is wounded by his own poisoned weapon.
